FARMLAND MAPPING AND MONITORING PROGRAM

Time Series Maps

See changes in land use for specific regions as documented by FMMP.

California's population increased by nearly 44% between 1980 and 2000, according to Department of Finance estimates. FMMP has mapped changes in land use accompanying this growth since 1984, but each individual map does not capture how much change can occur in less than twenty years.

Actual Data--not a simulation

The information is gathered using air photos and site visits, and the data was extracted from FMMP's GIS database to create animated .gif files. No special software is necessary on your browser to view them, although image files are large in order to accommodate the map detail.

Urbanization Examples

Images are current to 2002 data.

Other Changes

Urbanization example, Brentwood, 1984-2000.
